Hello and thank you for your inquiry.
Being we are a marine aquarium specialty shop we aren't familiar with the hydroponic lighting systems. A 1000 watt system though I feel would be too much for a 50 gallon system, possibly even the 92 gallon system. Generally for metal halide the 92 gallon system would be good with either 250-400 watt metal halide (probably would need 2 bulbs minimum for full coveage) and the 50 gallon would be good with a 150-250 watt metal halide system.
IF you wanted to try that system on a reef tank, I would imagine to prevent heat issues as well as bleaching of the corals from too intense of a light it would need to be at least 2-3 feet above the water surface of the tank.
I would personally recommend looking into a system designed for a reef tank either in metal halide, T5 flourescent or LED lighting sytems for your tank. If you have questions on these systems or need some recommendations feel free to drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
